Sarawak Premier tests positive for Covid-19

KUCHING: Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg (pic) has tested positive for Covid-19.

State Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said this at the Sarawak Women’s Day celebration in Miri on Tuesday (March 8).

“I wish to convey apologies from the Sarawak Premier. We received news at 9pm last night (March 7) that he is unable to attend the ceremony because he has tested positive for Covid-19.

“Let us all pray for his speedy recovery,” she said.

Fatimah later read out the text of Abang Johari’s speech.

Two other members of the Sarawak Cabinet have tested positive recently for the coronavirus.

Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian tested positive on Feb 28 and has since recovered.

On March 2, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department Datuk Gerawat Gala also tested positive.
