Johor polls: Bukit Aman NCID chief casts ballot, says address being updated

JOHOR BARU: Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director Comm Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay cast his vote at Dewan Dato’ Onn in the Johor police headquarters here on Tuesday (March 8).

The former Johor police chief arrived at the lobby of the hall at 9.35am accompanied by current state police chief Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat.

Comm Ayob said his registered address was still in the process of being changed after he was transferred to Bukit Aman.

“The process of changing my address takes about three months, that is why I have to vote in Johor.

“So far I am satisfied with the standard operating procedure (SOP) imposed and I hope the process will go smoothly,” he said when met by reporters after casting his vote on Tuesday (March 8).

When asked if he misses Johor, Comm Ayob said that Johor was a unique state with its own attraction.

Meanwhile, Comm Kamarul Zaman said that the early voting process was a bit slow due to heavy rain in the morning.

“The situation went back to normal after the rain stopped at around 9am,” he said.

Comm Ayob took over as NCID chief from Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Razarudin Husain on Jan 3.

Comm Ayob, 55, was Johor police chief for two years.

Meanwhile, in a statement, the Election Commission announced early voter turnout was 12% as of 9am.
