Family offering RM10,000 reward to find missing hiker

IPOH: The family of Lau San, an elderly hiker who has gone missing, is offering a RM10,000 reward to find him.

Lau’s son Kok Gian, 48, said his 84-year-old father went missing while hiking with friends on March 11 at a hill near Puncak Jelapang here.

He said despite efforts by search and rescue teams, friends and other hikers, his father has yet to be located.

“We are offering the reward and seeking help from the public to locate my father,” he said during a press conference at the search and rescue site Saturday (March 19).

Also at the location was Lau’s wife Chin Ah Yoong, 81.

Besides policemen and firemen, the search and rescue operation also consists of personnel from the Civil Defence Department and Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team.

Canine units and drones are being used to locate Lau as well.

Kok Gian, a flight attendant, said the family was very worried as his father has been missing for eight days now.

“My father had a full medical check-up two days before his disappearance and the doctor gave him a clean bill of health. He has no history of dementia and he regularly goes hiking two to three times a week,” he added.

Kok Gian said his father was fine before the hike, where had lunch and watched television before leaving their house in Kampung Tawas at 3pm.
