Dr Wee: Malaysia, Canada may lift more travel restrictions as aviation biz surges

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia and Canada are looking at lifting more public health measures to ease travel restrictions as the surge in aviation passengers is expected to continue, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The Transport Minister, who is currently in Canada, paid a courtesy call on his Canadian counterpart Omar Alghabra at the Delegation Office of Canada at the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) headquarters in Montreal recently.

“We’re glad that Malaysia and Canada have agreed to support each other as we seek re-election into the ICAO Council Part III and Part I, respectively,” he said in a Facebook post on Tuesday (Sept 27).

“Interestingly, Alghabra and I were both appointed as Transport Minister during the Covid-19 pandemic and have had to deal with transportation matters in our respective countries under very different circumstances.

“Currently, both countries are looking at lifting more public health measures to ease restrictions on travellers as we expect a continued surge in the number of aviation passengers,” he added.
