ASUS ROG Phone 7 Ultimate Mostly Survives Bend Test
When it comes to gaming phones, these have had a recent history of not being able to survive the notorious bend test by YouTuber JerryRigEverything. This includes a couple of the previous ASUS ROG Phones. Though from the looks of it, the ASUS ROG Phone 7 Ultimate does a lot better than the ones that came before.
As usual, the JerryRigEverything video starts with a quick overview of the phone. But the torture starts halfway through the video, with the scratching of the front screen that’s protected by a layer of Gorilla Glass Victus. Like many phone screens, this starts leaving marks when scratched with something that’s on the Mohs hardness scale of six or higher. This then continues with the scratching of the other parts of the phone, as the process usually goes, as well as exposing the AMOLED screen to a lighter.
Finally, we get to the actual bend test, where the ASUS ROG Phone 7 Ultimate does surprisingly well compared to its older models. There’s a pretty severe bending from the front, though without the phone actually snapping into two distinct pieces. Bending from the back, and it looks like the construction on this side is sturdier than before. As usual, these are extreme durability tests that phones are unlikely to experience under normal use cases. But if you do find yourself putting the phone in your back pocket when sitting down, You’ll at least have a chance to feet it before doing serious damage.
One thing that’s worth noting though is the air vent at the back, the one distinctive feature separating the ASUS ROG Phone 7 Ultimate from the base models. The JerryRigEverything video shows a way to force it open, which involved breaking a part of the AeroActive 7 cooler, as well as obsctructing the vent to prevent it from closing. There is no real need to do that, as you can do so via the Armoury Crate software by heading to the AeroActive Portal section, and toggle maintenance mode from the kebab menu.
