Woman hurt in car-van collision in Kota Marudu

KOTA KINABALU: A woman was hurt when her van caught fire after an accident along Jalan Langkon in Sabah’s Kota Marudu district early Sunday (Aug 14).

It is learnt that the woman managed to escape from the van when she saw smoke coming out from the engine compartment.

State Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Misran Bisara said they received a call about the accident at 5.51am.

He said the van was already in flames when firemen arrived, while the driver had exited the vehicle.

“Medical personnel gave her preliminary treatment at the scene. The man who was driving the other car involved in the collision escaped unhurt,” Misran said in a statement.

The injured woman was then sent to the hospital, he said, adding that the victims’ identification details were not obtained at the scene.

“Our operation ended at 6.10am after the team made sure that there were no more hazardous elements on scene,” he said.
