Johor polls: Voter turnout expected to pick up after 3pm, says Tebrau MP
JOHOR BARU: The voter turnout is expected to pick up after 3pm as many have to work on polling day, says Tebrau MP, Steven Choon Shiau Yoon.
The Parti Bangsa Malaysia candidate for the Puteri Wangsa seat said the voter turnout was still quite low in the first half of Saturday (March 12), and hoped eligible voters will head to their respective polling centres after clocking out from work.
“Last night, I also received calls from some of my supporters telling me that they tested positive for Covid-19, and were unable to cast their votes,” said Choon.
He added that he reminded them to get their close contacts to head out to vote as they are still allowed to do so after obtaining a permission slip from the district health officer.
“I sent them the QR code and also posted it on Facebook for others to apply for permission, which could be obtained immediately to encourage more people to head out to vote,” he said when met after casting his vote at Sekolah Agama Taman Puteri Wangsa here.
His wife Chua Yong Hiang, 57, also cast her vote at the same polling centre.
Choong is in a six-cornered fight with Barisan Nasional-MCA candidate Ng Yew Aik, Perikatan Nasional’s Loh Kah Yong, Malaysian United Democratic Alliance secretary-general Amira Aisya, Parti Pejuang Tanah Air’s Dr Khairil Anwar Razali, and Independent candidate, Adzrin Adam.
