Cop under investigation for making TikTok video during raid

KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman is investigating an incident where a policewoman was said to have made a live TikTok video during a raid.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Razarudin Husain said he had instructed the Bukit Aman Integrity and Standards Compliance Department to investigate.

“I have instructed the department to take the necessary action against the officer involved, including taking her statement about making a live recording during the operation.

“We want also want to know the motive for and objective of making the recording using her TikTok account,” he said on Monday (April 25).

Razarudin said the department would issue a circular on the use of social media among police officers and personnel.

In the one-minute, 38-second video, the policewoman with the rank of Asst Supt is seen explaining what she does at work, including conducting raids and inspections.

Halfway through, she expresses surprise that the live video has more than 1,400 viewers and says she hopes her TikTok account will have more than 100,000 followers.

Her action drew the ire of social media users who criticised her for taking advantage of an operation.

In August 2020, the police issued a directive prohibiting its officers and personnel from sharing social media content of themselves in uniform.

The directive stated Bukit Aman was concerned that its officers and personnel were recording and uploading dancing and other acts while in uniform on social media.

The directive was aimed at preventing negative perception or criticism that could tarnish the image of the police force.
