4177 detained in special drug ops nationwide

KUALA LUMPUR: A total 2,466 drug pushers and addicts were among 4,177 individuals detained for various drug related offences nationwide.

The operation, codenamed “Ops Tapis Khas 7”, was conducted from Dec 6 until Dec 8.

Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) secretary Deputy Comm Datuk Noorsiah Mohd Saaduddin said police also seized 181.84kg and 1,003.12l of drugs worth RM3.6mil, as well as three firearms during the operation.

“A total of 4,878 individuals were inspected.

“We detained 4,177 people aged between 13 and 71 for drug related offences following the inspection,” she said in a statement on Saturday (Dec 10).

DCP Noorsiah said 484 drug pushers including six foreigners and a student were detained in the operation.

“We also detained 1,982 drug addicts, including five civil servants and a student.

‘We also detained 307 individuals on the wanted list during the operation,” she said.

The operation consisted of 1,864 officers and personnel from the Bukit Aman Narcotic Crime Investigation Department (NCID), she said.

“The objective of the operation is to detect and detain those committing drug offences, especially drug pushers.

“The operation is focused on Felda, Felcra, People’s Housing Project (PPR) and drug dens around the country,” she added.

DCP Noorsiah said police also seized 121 vape bottles believed to be containing 1.3l of ketamine and 7.52g of ganja.

“Two men were detained during the raid.

“We also arrested 20 members of the “Bani Tenang” gang for various drug related offences and seized 239.62g of ganja,” she said.

Police also seized RM612,563 worth of assets belonging to drug syndicates, DCP Noorsiah said.

“Among the items seized were RM32,663 cash, jewellery (RM49,600) and vehicles (RM530,300),” she said.

Between Jan and Dec, DCP Noorsiah said 28,710 individuals were nabbed in Ops Tapis Khas.

“We also seized 2,241.53 kg and 4,966.44l of drugs worth RM 19.8mil during the same period,” she said.
