Three charged with murdering man at morning market in Ipoh

IPOH: Three men have been charged with the Nov 25 murder of a 29-year-old man at a morning market in Jalan Hospital here.

No plea was recorded from Ismail Rizwan Ramli, 34; Mohd Fuzi Ab Manaf, 47; and Ramli Lot, 60; after they were jointly charged in court before Magistrate Noor Azreen Liana Mohd Darus here on Wednesday (Dec 1).

According to the charge sheet, the victim, Muhammad Noor Faqih Mohamed Ariffin, was murdered between 9.50am and 11.05am on Nov 25 at a morning market near a flat at Jalan Hospital.

Deputy public prosecutor Sufi Aiman Azmi told the court the authorities are still waiting for the post-mortem result.

Sufi Aiman then requested the court to send Ramli to Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta for mental evaluation.

Lawyer Mohd Hakim Hamran, who represented the three accused, told the court that Ramli will undergo an MRI scan at Raja Permaisuri Hospital on Dec 27.

“In 2013, Ramli underwent surgery to remove a tumour in his head.

“He was then diagnosed with depression as well as emotional and anger issues,” he said.

On Nov 25, Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the victim was believed to have been choked to death during a fight, allegedly over a stolen portable speaker, in front of a stall at Flat Ashby, Jalan Hospital.

On Nov 26, Ipoh OCPD Asst comm Yahaya Hassan denied police did nothing to stop the fight after a viral photo showed policemen apparently standing at the crime scene, with a suspect on the ground with the victim.

He said policemen from the Sungai Senam police station rushed to the scene upon receiving a distress call at around 9am on the morning of the incident.
