Jais: Religious teachers who refuse to be vaccinated will be suspended for two months

SHAH ALAM: Action has been taken against religious teachers in Selangor who refuse to take Covid-19 vaccination by suspending them for two months.

Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) director Datuk Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad (pic) said if there are still teachers who did not complete their Covid-19 vaccination during their suspension period, they can also be terminated immediately.

He said the action was made through the department ruling based on Selangor’s Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah’s decree, who has reminded mosque and marriage officials who refused to be vaccinated.

“This is an old issue according to His Royal Highness who has made vaccination compulsory to religious teachers. We at Jais have also issued a letter and an opportunity has been given.

“But if they refuse to follow, we will suspend them for two months,” he said to Sinar Harian on Sunday (March 27).

Mohd Shahizan said the suspension period is an opportunity for these teachers to complete their Covid-19 vaccination.

He, however, said there are some who still refuse to follow the ruling which has been set at the state level, which has received direct instructions from the Federal Government.
