Floods: Putrajaya to pay for new homes to replace seven Jelebu houses destroyed in deluge

SEREMBAN: The Federal Government will finance the construction of seven houses in Jelebu which were completely destroyed in last week’s floods, says Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.

He said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob informed him during a meeting with Mentris Besar and Chief Ministers on Monday (Jan 3) that Putrajaya will allocate RM56,000 to rebuild each house.

“The state government is supposed to provide the plots to relocate these victims,” he told reporters when met after delivering his speech at the monthly gathering of state government employees here on Tuesday (Jan 4).

Aminuddin said the state government has already identified a site in Kg Puom in Jelebu for this purpose.

He said the proposed area was located on high ground and was not affected during the recent floods in the state.

“The state government had initially set aside RM1mil to help those whose homes were completely destroyed.

“Since the federal authorities are now helping out, we will provide the land to rebuild their homes,” he said.

The Implementation and Coordination Unit under the Prime Minister’s Department, the Housing and Local Government Ministry and the Rural Development Ministry have been jointly tasked to rebuild the homes, he added.

The seven families affected are currently staying at the Dewan Kg Puom relief centre.

He said they had the option to move to temporary quarters owned by Syarikat Air Negri Sembilan or chalets owned by the Jelebu district council.

Aminuddin said the Federal Government would also provide up to RM5,000 to those whose homes were damaged in the floods.

On a related matter, he said the state government has also set aside RM5mil to repair infrastructure damaged in the floods.

“These repairs, which include rebuilding bridges and roads, have to be carried out immediately.

“There is also a lot of damage along the federal routes caused mainly by landslides but these will be borne by the federal authorities,” he said.

He said the state government has also disbursed RM3.4mil to 3,462 families in the state affected by floods as of Dec 31.

On another matter, he said the state government managed to collect RM397.4mil in revenue last year, which was 88.7% of the targeted amount.
