Floods: Govt expresses grief over natural disaster, says PM

KUALA LUMPUR:The government expresses grief over the flooding that hit the country at the end of 2021, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said that the preparations for the monsoon season had focused on east coast states, while the unusual floods in Selangor were unexpected.

The Prime Minister added that according to police figures, 55 fatalities were recorded due to the unusual floods involving 40 men, 12 women, two boys and one girl, while two more victims are reported to be missing.

“I would like to record my deepest condolences and express my sympathy to those who have lost their family members as a result of this disaster which also resulted in damage and destruction of homes and property,” he said in his special address in Parliament on Thursday (Jan 20).
