Claims that Muda used donation monies to purchase beer ‘absurd’, says Syed Saddiq

PETALING JAYA: Claims that the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) used the donation monies it received to purchase beer are absurd, says Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

The Muda president said that all of the money donated went to flood relief work.

“Muda is an open book. 100% of all our donations are channeled to the flood victims,” he said in a statement on his Facebook page on Tuesday (Jan 4) night.

This comes after images of people wearing Muda T-shirts drinking beer surfaced on social media along with allegations that the money received by the party had been used for that purpose.

In response to this, Syed Saddiq said that he had a press conference last week that had shown all their transactions.

“All these matters will be recorded and will be audited. You don’t have to make accusations that Muda had misused the money it received to purchase alcohol,” he said.

Syed Saddiq also said that those who want to know more about their spending should speak to Muda’s Flood Mission Command Centre.

Syed Saddiq then added that the party is formed upon the basis of tolerance, saying that the party is multiracial.

“It is not wrong if they want to drink unless they are driving. We respect their rights and they respect our rights. This is their personal right,” he said.
