235 slapped with summonses during Ops Lejang in Penang

GEORGE TOWN: A total of 235 motorists were slapped with summonses during Ops Lejang conducted by the Penang Road and Transport Department (JPJ) and other enforcement agencies on Saturday (Aug 6).

“The joint operation, involving the police, National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK), Immigration Department, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and PLUS Berhad, was conducted at two locations in Juru Toll and the Penang Bridge,” it said in a statement on Facebook.

Of a total of 675 motorcycles checked, 235 motorists were slapped with summonses for various offenses.

Among the offences committed were underaged riders, driving without a valid driving licence or expired driving licence, no insurance coverage, illegal modifications of motorcycles and others.

“Motorcycle owners and riders are advised not to make any modifications to the vehicle for the purpose of increasing speed and to engage in illegal racing activities as well as riding recklessly and dangerously that can cause accidents and deaths on the road,” it added.

The public are also advised to obey traffic laws and drive carefully.

Present during the operation were state JPJ deputy director Shahrul Azhar Mat Dali and operation section chief Mohd Nasron Aliyasak.
