Google’s Alleged ‘Switch to Android’ iOS App May Feature iCloud To Google Photos Migration

It’s been rumoured since last year that Google is developing a data migration app for iOS under the purported name of ‘Switch to Android’. Thanks to a recent discovery, it has been reported that the tool could also feature the ability to shift a user’s photos and videos that are stored on Apple’s iCloud service over to Google Photos.

According to 9to5Google, information regarding this feature is found in a string from the latest version of Google’s Data Restore Tool app. While the application itself is meant for Android-to-Android data transfer, the publication believes that it will eventually work together with the allegedly upcoming ‘Switch to Android’ tool. Furthermore, the discovery of this feature also seemingly ties in with an existing support article, which explains the process of requesting a copy of your data from Apple and selecting your Google account as the destination.

In addition, 9to5Google notes of another string in the app that explicitly mentions a “Lightning cable.” This indicates that users may be able to migrate data from an iPhone to an Android via wired means, which is expectedly much faster and efficient.

There’s still no word on when the alleged ‘Switch to Android’ app is expected to be released. If anything, there’s a chance that it may debut during Google’s annual I/O conference which is usually held in May.
