Sarawak to get a new science centre

KUCHING: Sarawak is setting up a science centre to nurture scientific literacy in the state.

State Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister Datuk Roland Sagah said his ministry was working with the Singapore Science Centre to develop the centre at Jalan Stadium here.

He said the RM200mil Sarawak Science Centre (SSC) was targeted for completion in 2024, with earthworks already underway at the project site.

“The new SSC will play an instrumental role in providing an informal learning platform and nurturing scientific literacy among the public in Sarawak.

“It will provide students and the public with immersive, interactive fun exhibits, where learning takes place by carrying out science explorations and physical activities,” Sagah told reporters after opening a workshop for phases four and five of the SSC master plan here on Tuesday (April 26).

Phase four covers exhibition content while phase five is on education learning content.

Sagah said the workshop explored ways to develop an impactful visitor experience and informal learning programmes at the new science centre.

It was also a platform for sharing best practices on STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) exhibitions.

Participants included stakeholders from various government agencies and departments.
