Najib’s son may contest Pekan seat in GE15, says report

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s son, Datuk Mohd Nizar (pic), could be the candidate for the Pekan seat in the 15th General Election.

“The son of Najib Razak and first wife, Tengku Puteri Zainah Tengku Eskandar, is the most likely candidate to continue the legacy of the late Tun Abdul Razak,” reports Utusan Malaysia.

However, the report said that it was yet to be decided which of the state seats Mohd Nizar, who is the Pekan Umno youth chief, would also contest.

Mohd Nizar, 44 was seen as the right candidate for the seat if Najib was not eligible to contest in GE15.

Najib took over the Pekan parliamentary seat after the death of his father in 1976 when he started his political career at the age of 23.

He retained the seat with a majority of 24,859 in GE14 after securing 43,854 votes in a four-cornered fight.
