Floods: Number of evacuees in Melaka now 2,537, three new relief centres opened

MELAKA: The number of flood evacuees in the state here has gone up to 2,537 as at 8am Monday (Jan 3,) says the Civil Defence Force (APM).

Melaka APM director Lt Kol (PA) Cubbert John Martin Quadra said on Monday (Jan 3) that there were evacuees from 656 families in 22 flood relief centres state-wide.

He said the Melaka Tengah district had the highest number of evacuees with 1,391, followed by Alor Gajah (1,015) and Jasin (131).

He also said 32 areas in the state are currently inundated with 14 in Alor Gajah, Melaka Tengah (nine) and Jasin (nine).

“Three new flood relief centres were opened on Monday (Jan 3) at SK Chinchin in Jasin, SMK Munshi Abdullah and SMK Tun Mutahir, both in Melaka Tengah,” he said.

Areas affected by flood in Melaka Tengah are Taman Merdeka Jaya, Kampung Lanjut Manis, Padang Siapong, Kampung Tanah Merah, Taman Tamby Chik Karim, Rumah Awam Peringgit, Kampung Bachang Darat, Bertam Malim and Balai Panjang.

In Alor Gajah, the APM identified Kampung Gadek Dalam, Taman Seri Bayu 1, Pengkalan, Kampung Panchor, Kampung Beringin, Kampung Sungai Siput, Lubok China, Kampung Jeram, Kampung Belimbing, Kampung Pulau, Kampung Telok Berembang, Kampung Bukit Balai, Kampung Gangsa and Taman Angkasa Nuri.

In Jasin, the areas identified are Kampung Chinchin, Chinchin Hulu, Kampung Sungai Dua Asahan, Chohong, Kampung Parit Penghulu and Kampung Lanchang.
