Covid-19 Watch: 9,705 new cases, says Health Ministry

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 9,705 new Covid-19 infections on Saturday (April 16), says the Health Ministry.

Health Director General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a press release on Sunday (April 17) that this brings the total number of infections in the country to 4,382,402 cases since the pandemic began.

He added that there were 30 imported Covid-19 infections on Saturday, with the remaining 9,675 cases being the result of local transmissions.

Dr Noor Hisham then said that there were 14,346 recoveries on Saturday and that 331 people were hospitalized, with 146 being in Categories 3, 4 and 5 while 185 are in Categories 1 and 2.

He added that 134 patients currently require treatment in intensive care units (ICU) and that 81 currently require ventilator support.

Dr Noor Hisham also said that 72 of the 134 patients in the ICU are confirmed Covid-19 cases, and added that 44 of the 81 patients requiring ventilators are confirmed cases.
