Covid-19 Watch: 1,942 new cases, nationwide ICU bed usage at 59.6pc

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 1,942 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday (Sept 13), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 4,808,896 infections since the pandemic began.

The Health Ministry’s CovidNow portal reported that 1,933 of Tuesday’s new Covid-19 cases were local transmissions while nine imported infections were logged.

Recoveries outpaced new infections, with 2,276 patients recovering on Tuesday. This brings the cumulative number of recoveries in Malaysia to 4,746,912 since the pandemic began.

The portal also reported that there were 25,693 active cases currently in the country, with 24,431, or 95.1%, observing home quarantine and 11 individuals admitted to low-risk quarantine and treatment centres.

The CovidNow portal reported that 1,251 patients, or 4.87% of the total, were currently admitted to hospital for treatment. The number of Covid-19 patients warded at intensive care units (ICU) throughout the country stands at 62, with 39 of these patients requiring ventilation support.

The ICU utilisation rate nationwide stood at 59.6%, with six states or localities recording ICU usage rates of more than 60%.

Kedah had the highest ICU utilisation rate at 89.7%, followed by Selangor (78.8%), Johor (71.4%), Kuala Lumpur (65.2%), Kelantan (63.3%) and Negri Sembilan (61.2%).

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry’s GitHub data repository reported that six Covid-19 deaths were reported on Tuesday.

This brings the death toll to 36,291.
