U Mobile Users Report Data Outage; Many Websites Inaccessible [UPDATED]

Local telco U Mobile seems to be experiencing a wide outage on its network as many users are reporting on social media that they are unable to connect to the internet using their U Mobile data. One of our writers is also using the carrier and it seems that it isn’t a complete outage; instead, the issue affects only some websites.

Some of the affected sites include our own and for a while, even Twitter, though it seems the latter can now be accessed. That being said, some U Mobile users on Twitter say they do not have any data connection at all. The telco itself has not acknowledged the issue yet, so it’s unclear if it is a wider issue or just an isolated incident at this point in time.

Through our checking, those using Celcom and Maxis are not experiencing the connection issues that U Mobile users are having. On U Mobile’s network outage site, the company is reporting no issues with its coverage except for Dengkil, Selangor and Maran, Pahang, which are going through scheduled maintenance today that could lead to service disruption.
