Gentari today has announced the activation of a new roaming network, which now allow electric vehicle (EV) owners cross-access to charging points operated by the company as well as its partners, JomCharge operator EV Connection Sdn and chargEV operator Green EV Charge Sdn Bhd (under Yinson GreenTech). As you may recall, the collaboration was first revealed by the company earlier this year back in March.

EV owners can now utilise more than 600 charging points, including those located in East Malaysia, which is equivalent to approximately 60% that’s available across the nation. More specifically, these comprise of above 150 charging stations by the company, over 100 by JomCharge, and more than 320 by chargEV.

Furthermore, Gentari notes that users will also have cross-tracking access via all three service’s mobile applications, as well as through Setel. This will conveniently allow them access to charging stations as well as activate and pay from any partner platform.

“Offering ease of access and convenient use of charging infrastructure is essential to drive the switch to EVs,” Gentari Green Mobility Sdn Bhd CEO Shah Yang Razalli said via a press release. “With this roaming collaboration, we are able to offer access to an extensive network to empower EV drivers with range confidence, growing the number of accessible charging points at a pace that would have otherwise become a challenge for individual network owners.”

Shah added that this new partnership will greatly help to achieve collective progress and pace in building the ecosystem necessary to push EV adoption in Malaysia. Meanwhile, EV Connection Sdn Bhd technical director Dr Che Hang Seng said he is hopeful that the collaboration will also inspire other charge point operators (CPOs) to follow suit, whereas Yinson Group CEO Lim Chern Yuan commented this is a step forward to quickly expand the EV charging network in the country.
