Missing man’s headless body found in river, croc attack suspected

SIBU: A man’s body has been found with his head and hands missing, two days after he was feared to have drowned in Sungai Lingga, Sri Aman here.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Services Department said in its daily update Wednesday (Feb 9) that Myanmar national Thein Wai Maung, 35, was found by villagers at 7.30am some 5km from where he fell into the river on Monday (Feb 7).

The department believed that the victim was attacked by a crocodile.

The body has been turned over to the Lingga police for further action.

The victim, a welder at a shipyard, was reported missing by a foreman of the company on Monday.

According to the foreman, Thein was busy at work on a vessel when he fell into the river.

His colleagues tried to save him but were unsuccessful.
