Johor polls: Warisan to contest six seats in peninsular electoral debut
JOHOR BARU: Parti Warisan will be contesting six seats in the Johor election, says its president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal (pic).
The Semporna MP added that the party, which was making its electoral debut in Peninsular Malaysia, would be fielding first-time candidates.
The seats Warisan would be contesting in the March 12 Johor election are Pekan Nanas, Bekok, Mahkota, Johor Jaya, Bukit Batu and Permas.
“We have lawyers, a double masters holder, businessmen, a non-governmental organisation leader and the son of a former Johor state secretary.
“But what is important is that all of them are ‘anak Johor’ (people of Johor),” he said in his speech during the announcement of Warisan’s candidates at a hotel here on Friday (Feb 25).
During the announcement, incumbent Permas assemblyman Datuk Seri Che Zakaria Mohd Salleh from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) was spotted among the crowd.
Shafie acknowledged his arrival and said that Che Zakaria had joined Warisan.
On Thursday (Feb 24), Barisan Nasional, Perikatan Nasional, the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) and DAP unveiled all their candidates for the state election.
Nominations are on Saturday (Feb 26) with early polling on March 8.
