Fujitsu unveils Millimeter-Wave Monitoring System for enhanced safety and privacy in care facilities

KAWASAKI, Japan, June 16, 2025 - (JCN Newswire via SeaPRwire.com) - Fujitsu Limited today announced the release of its Millimeter-Wave Monitoring System (1). Available in Japan from June 16, the system will help customers monitor for safety in locations where camera installation is not appropriate due to privacy concerns, such as in care and assisted living facilities and accessible toilets. The system assesses data on human movement, including body vibrations like breathing and muscle activity, using Fujitsu's proprietary AI. This allows for the automatic detection of anomalies, including subtle changes in breathing and body vibrations irregularities, which are difficult to detect with existing technologies that rely solely on motion detection. The system can operate automatically, supporting 24-hour monitoring and management tasks during night and early morning hours when staffing is limited, and because it does not record video footage or collect personal data of any kind, privacy can be maintained. As Fujitsu’s technology detects using millimeter-wave radar, it can be used effectively in low-light environments.Alert notification function to support rapid responseThe system is equipped with a function to issue alerts under specific conditions i.e., when a person falls and does not get up for a certain period, when a person remains in a specific location for an extended time, or when anomalies occur during sleep including breathing difficulties. Notifications can be sent to individually designated recipients, ensuring that the right people receive information quickly, preventing delays in initial response and maximizing user safety.Figure: System Usage OverviewPrior to the launch of this system, Fujitsu has been verifying the effectiveness of millimeter-wave radar monitoring technology in accessible toilets with AEON MALL Co., Ltd. and in experiments related to fall detection of the inpatients with Wakayama Medical University.[1]Millimeter-Wave Monitoring System:This system is not a medical device as defined by the Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Act.About FujitsuFujitsu’s purpose is to make the world more sustainable by building trust in society through innovation. (Ample) and Yamato Transport Co., Ltd. (Yamato Transport) announced a multi-year pilot program beginning September 2025 to deploy more than 150 battery-swappable commercial electric vehicles (EVs) and 14 modular battery swapping stations across Tokyo. The Tokyo effort follows a smaller battery swapping pilot in Kyoto last year. The project will deploy swappable EVs, including MFTBC's eCanter light-duty truck and Mitsubishi Motors' Minicab EV (a kei-car class commercial electric vehicle with monobox design) to serve commercial delivery fleets. Yamato Transport, Japan’s largest shipping and logistics group and a leader in electrification, will be the initiative’s first major customer and will focus on last mile applications. The American battery swapping company Ample will provide battery swapping technology for the participating EV platforms and will install and operate swapping stations. The project is supported by the Tokyo Metropolitan Environment Public Corporation through its "Technology Development Support Project for Promoting New Energy." The effort directly supports Japan’s ambitious economy-wide climate goal to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 46% from 2013 levels by 2030, achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. The transportation sector accounted for roughly 19% of the country's total CO₂ emissions as of 2022, making commercial fleet electrification a strategic priority in Japan's decarbonization efforts.A foundational goal of the effort is to minimize vehicle downtime during charging. The Tokyo consortium targets battery swapping times of just 5 minutes. Unlike conventional charging or refueling, battery swapping is fully automated—drivers never need to exit their vehicles. TANAKA PRECIOUS METAL TECHNOLOGIES Receives 2025 Technology Award from Catalyst Manufacturers Association, Japan, for Development and Practical Application of Electrode Catalysts for PEM Water Electrolysis

TOKYO, June 6, 2025 - (JCN Newswire via SeaPRwire.com) - TANAKA PRECIOUS METAL TECHNOLOGIES Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director & CEO: Koichiro Tanaka), a company engaged in the industrial precious metals business of TANAKA, has received the 2025 Technology Award from the Catalyst Manufacturers Association, Japan (CMAJ) for development and practical application of electrode catalysts for PEM water electrolysis. Ikkei Arima, from TANAKA accepted the award and gave an acceptance speech at the CMAJ award ceremony held on June 5.PEM water electrolysis as an important technology for realizing a carbon-neutral societyGreater use of renewable energy is necessary for realizing a carbon-neutral society. A key challenge with renewable energy lies in the inability to control the timing of power generation. For instance, solar energy can be harnessed only during daylight hours and is dependent on clear weather conditions, limiting its availability when sunlight is insufficient. One way to avoid this timing issue is “power-to-gas” (P2G), a technology that is gaining attention recently. It utilizes technologies such as proton exchange membrane (PEM) water electrolysis to generate and store hydrogen by leveraging surplus electricity from renewable or alternative energy sources. The stored hydrogen can then be used as a clean power source when demand arises. Therefore, PEM water electrolysis is an important technology for realizing both power-to-gas technology and carbon neutrality.New catalyst technology to solve technological problem of hydrogen crossover in PEM water electrolysisThe 2025 Technology Award was granted for the development and practical application of electrode catalysts for PEM water electrolysis, recognizing a newly developed and commercialized dual-functional catalyst working as both an oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalyst and gas recombination catalyst (GRC). This new catalyst technology succeeds in solving hydrogen crossover, a technological problem in the PEM water electrolysis process, by efficiently lowering the hydrogen concentration on the anode side of a water electrolysis reaction while maintaining high electrolysis efficiency.Hydrogen crossover poses a significant safety risk, as hydrogen (H2) produced at the cathode during water electrolysis can permeate the proton exchange membrane (PEM) and migrate to the anode side, where it may come into contact with oxygen (O2), creating a potential hazard for explosion or fire. Hydrogen crossover has been conventionally controlled by using thicker membranes, but the problem was that resistance increased as membrane thickness increased, which resulted in less efficient electrolysis. Use of this newly developed catalyst enables thinner membranes to be used to significantly improve both safety and electrolysis efficiency. Having been successfully mass produced, this catalyst is now available for customers in Japan and overseas. With a focus on this technology, TANAKA will contribute to realizing a carbon-neutral society, which will become increasingly important going forward.2025 Technology Award from Catalyst Manufacturers Association, JapanCategory: Technology AwardRecipients: Ikkei Arima, Saki Konaka, Mitsuharu Fujita, Mizuki Ito, and Tatsuhiro Yamashita, TANAKA PRECIOUS METAL TECHNOLOGIES Co., Ltd.Recognition: Development and practical application of electrode catalysts for PEM water electrolysis*Catalyst Manufacturers Association, Japan, was founded by companies manufacturing catalysts, producing catalyst-related materials, and dealing with catalyst products to promote the sound development of Japan’s catalyst industry. MHI Thermal Systems Receives A’ Design Awards

TOKYO, June 4, 2025 - (JCN Newswire via SeaPRwire.com) - Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Thermal Systems, Ltd. (MHI Thermal Systems), a part of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) Group, has received two awards at A' Design Award 2025, an international design competition in Italy, for its in-house developed KXZ3 Series of building-use, multi-split air-conditioners,(Note1) and the RC-ES1 remote control unit for air-conditioners(Note2) for overseas markets. The A' Design Award is an international design competition established in Italy in 2008. The award aims to elevate the quality of design around the world, and promote the appreciation and understanding of good design. Categories include products, architecture, and fashion. At this year's awards, the KXZ3 Series received the prestigious Platinum Award, the highest award given to the top 1% of entries, and the RC-ES1 won the Gold Award, the next highest category, presented to the top 3% of submissions. The KXZ3 Series helps mitigate environmental impacts by using R32 refrigerant, giving it a Global Warming Potential (GWP)(Note3) of about one-third that of earlier models with R410A refrigerant. A new type of compressor and renewed air flow path design have improved the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) by approximately 18%,(Note4) realizing greater energy savings. The KXZ3 Series features a new exterior design with blue ornamentation by the Japanese design firm ID+. It also incorporates a single-fan structure and a compact heat exchanger, resulting in a 28% smaller footprint. Newly added features include "Variable Temperature & Capacity Control +" for a balance of energy savings and indoor comfort, as well as a "hot gas bypass defrost" operating mode that lessens the fall in indoor temperature common with conventional defrosting operation.(Note5) The series is also compatible with dedicated devices that comply with safety regulations, such as a shutoff valve that can be connected to multiple indoor units, helping to reduce installation costs. The RC-ES1 is a remote control for air-conditioners used in stores, offices, and hotels, with a refined design by the Italian design firm Tensa Industrial Design. The black tone color of the casing, and compact and flat shape (86 mm x 86 mm x 17 mm), blends seamlessly into a variety of interiors. Functions in display and capacitive touch key are expressed with pictograms for intuitive operation. The RC-ES1 is compatible with Bluetooth®,(Note6) allowing for operation and settings control with a smartphone through a dedicated app. The app has three modes (User, Administrator, and Service), allowing users to confirm operation, settings, and maintenance information according to the application. Further, settings data can be automatically transmitted to up to 20 remote control units within the Bluetooth® wireless connection range, contributing to enhanced work efficiency.Through these awards, MHI Thermal Systems will continue to develop technologies that are tailored to each customer, with the aim of providing heating and cooling solutions that meet diverse needs.(1) For more information about the KXZ3 Series of air-conditioners, see the following press release.https://www.mhi.com/news/24040901.html(2) For more information on the RC-ES1 remote control unit, see the following press release.https://www.mhi.com/news/240703.html(3) Global Warming Potential (GWP) is a coefficient expressing the greenhouse effect of a gas relative to carbon dioxide (CO2), which has a fixed GWP of 1.0. The lower the value, the lower the greenhouse effect and the better for the environment.(4) Compared with an outdoor unit with 10 horsepower.(5) Conventional defrosting removes frost formed on the outdoor unit during heating operation. Because the airflow of the indoor unit stops during this operation, the indoor temperature may fall temporarily depending on the building conditions.(6) The Bluetooth® word mark and logos are registered trademarks owned by Bluetooth SIG, Inc., and any use of such marks by MHI Thermal Systems is under license. Orange completes successful trial of Fujitsu 1FINITY optical transport solution JCN Newswire

Orange completes successful trial of Fujitsu 1FINITY optical transport solution

KAWASAKI, Japan, June 4, 2025 - (JCN Newswire via SeaPRwire.com) - Fujitsu Limited today announced that global communications service provider (CSP) Orange S.A. has completed a successful lab evaluation of the 1FINITY T900 Series Transponder. Evaluation of the 1FINITY T900 solution demonstrated outstanding performance at 800Gigabits per second (Gbps) wavelengths over long distance with low power consumption, enabling affordable and sustainable optical transport.Faced with escalating data demands and rising costs, network operators are challenged to transport more traffic at a lower cost per bit. In addition, this imperative is further compounded by high energy costs and environmental sustainability goals, as many network operators seek to reduce power consumption for a lower overall carbon footprint. With traditional transponder designs, increased transmission rates result in higher energy consumption, making long-distance transport more costly. In their evaluation at the Orange Innovation Labs in Lannion, France, Orange found that power consumption of the 1FINITY T900 transponder remained low and constant across all transmission rates, achieving a transport distance of at least 1600 km at 800Gbps with power consumption below 150 Watts. The trial demonstrates the potential for even greater long-haul transport distance and capacity without increased power consumption. This significant energy efficiency improvement is enabled by Fujitsu’s unique closed-loop liquid cooling technology. Combined with its capability to support up to 1.2 terabits per second (Tbps) per wavelength, this liquid-cooled transponder offers increased spectral efficiency for optimum capacity and reach. This results in a lower overall cost per bit per km, reduced operating costs, and improved sustainability.“As one of the world’s leading network operators, Orange is committed to deploying reliable, resilient, high-performance and secure networks to deliver a superior customer experience in all the communities we serve,” said Houmed Ibrahim, Optical Transport Innovation leader at Orange. “Toward that end, we continually seek out high-performance solutions from trusted suppliers, such as Fujitsu, that allow us to achieve our network performance goals with minimal power consumption, improving sustainability while helping to reduce total business costs.”“Consuming up to 70 percent less power at 800Gbps wavelengths, Fujitsu's 1FINITY T900 solution empowers extreme scale and hyper-reliable terabit performance, enabling long-haul networking between any two points within continental Europe,” said Hideki Matsui, head of Photonics System Business Unit at Fujitsu. “This successful trial provides assurance that the 1FINITY T900 transponder is a reliable solution for enhancing the performance and energy efficiency of optical infrastructure, helping network operators address the dual challenge of transporting more traffic at a lower cost per bit to meet both business and sustainability goals.”Fujitsu will establish a new company, 1FINITY Inc., on July 1, consolidating its network business products and operations into one entity. This move will speed and strengthen delivery of high-quality, high-performance optical and wireless solutions on a global scale, while contributing to the advancement of the digital society and realization of a more sustainable future.About FujitsuFujitsu’s purpose is to make the world more sustainable by building trust in society through innovation. Implementation of Measures to Enhance Our Corporate Value in Connection with Toyota Industries Corporation JCN Newswire

Implementation of Measures to Enhance Our Corporate Value in Connection with Toyota Industries Corporation

KARIYA, JAPAN, June 3, 2025 - (JCN Newswire via SeaPRwire.com) - DENSO CORPORATION, a leading mobility supplier, has announced that, at the meeting of the Board of Directors held on June 3, 2025, it has decided to sell its shares in Toyota Industries Corporation and to conduct an advance notice of a tender offer for its own shares held by Toyota Industries.Aiming to resolve social issues while realizing business growth, DENSO is engaged in the creation of corporate value with the aim of maximizing ROE*, guided by management with an awareness of capital costs, under its renewed financial strategy commencing in 2021. To this end, DENSO is driving a financial strategy supported by four pillars: (1) reinforce profit structure, (2) reduce low-profit assets, (3) improve capital structure, and (4) engage in dialogue with markets. The Transaction, proposed by Toyota Fudosan Co., Ltd., aims to further strengthen collaboration among Toyota Group companies through Toyota Industries shares private. In alignment with this proposal, DENSO has decided to implement the initiative as outlined below, as a means to accelerate the aforementioned financial strategy.Sale of DENSO’s Shareholding in Toyota IndustriesWith due consideration of the impact on the market supply and demand of the shares, DENSO had been proceeding with a phased sale of its shares in Toyota Industries over a two-and-a-half-year period starting in March 2024. Considering the tender offer for shares of Toyota Industries announced today by Toyota Fudosan, DENSO has decided to cancel the phased sale and instead to tender its shares in the tender offer. This enables DENSO to execute a quicker and assured bulk sale under more favorable conditions compared to selling on the market. As part of the efforts to reduce cross-shareholdings, the total value of shares sold in FY2024 reached a record high of 438.5 billion yen. In FY2025, together with the planned sale of shares in Toyota Industries, DENSO expects to generate cash proceeds exceeding 380 billion yen.Advance Notice of Tender Offer for Own SharesDENSO has decided to conduct an additional share repurchase in response to the confirmed intention of a large portion sales of DENSO shares held by Toyota Industries. By conducting the tender offer, DENSO can dispel concerns about supply-demand imbalance resulting from the sale and purchase the shares applying a discount to the market price. In FY2025, DENSO plans to conduct share repurchases totaling approximately 610 billion yen, comprising the remaining 250 billion yen from the market buyback program announced in FY2024 and up to 358 billion yen through the self-tender offer from Toyota Industries. This will represent the largest share repurchase in DENSO’s history.DENSO is committed not only to continuously improving its capital structure, but also to allocating resources toward growth investments that accelerate the transformation of its business portfolio. DENSO will continue striving to enhance corporate value in a way that resonates with its stakeholders.*ROE: Return on Equity Copyright 2025 JCN Newswire via SeaPRwire.com.

Mitsubishi Corporation to Invest and Enter into a Business Partnership with DEScycle Ltd., a UK Company Developing Innovative Metal Recycling Technology

TOKYO, June 2, 2025 - (JCN Newswire via SeaPRwire.com) - Mitsubishi Corporation (“MC”) has agreed to acquire shares in DEScycle Ltd., a company known for its innovative technology in metal recovery from e-scrap. The two companies will also enter into a strategic business partnership to foster collaboration.E-scrap contains valuable materials such as copper and precious metals, and its value as an urban mine has grown in recent years. With the continued integration of AI into society, the rapid expansion of data centers is expected to increase the volume of e-scrap. However, due to the challenges of achieving clean and cost-effective recycling, a large portion of e-scrap is still disposed of in landfills, raising serious environmental concerns.DEScycle's proprietary technology* enables to selectively dissolve metals at room temperature and atmospheric pressure, and is expected recover metals with significantly lower energy consumption and environmental impact compared to conventional smelting methods. By effectively utilizing e-scrap as a secondary resource, it contributes to sustainable resource circulation. The funds raised by DEScycle will support the construction and operation of a pilot plant in the UK. Following the demonstration phase, a commercial-scale plant with an annual processing capacity of approximately 5,000 tons is scheduled to begin operations in the UK in 2028, with plans to further expand to North America, Japan, and other regions.MC will leverage its trading expertise and industry network to undertake marketing activities for metal products such as copper and precious metals derived from e-scrap using DEScycle's technology. Additionally, MC will utilize its investment expertise to explore the expansion of the business together with DEScycle, aiming to contribute to the realization of a circular economy.*Proprietary technology developed by DEScycle uses Deep Eutectic Solvents (DES) to selectively dissolve metals at room temperature and atmospheric pressure.DEScycleDEScycle is a deep technology company developing disruptive metals processing technologies utilising a novel and eco-friendly class of chemistry known as DES.
